Greene County Apartment Fire Leaves 2 People Injured and Several Others Homeless

A significant fire occurred at a Yellow Springs apartment early Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to two individuals and the displacement of multiple others.

Emergency personnel from Yellow Springs, including firefighters and police officers, were summoned to the Hawthorne Place Apartments on West North College Street around 4:01 a.m. after receiving reports of the fire. The news was relayed by dispatchers to News Center 7.

According to City Manager Josué Salmerón, the police were the first responders at the scene and acted swiftly to ensure the safe evacuation of the building’s residents.

Two individuals were transported to local hospitals for assessment due to potential smoke inhalation.

Although the exact number of displaced residents is currently unknown, Salmerón mentioned that eight units were rendered uninhabitable. The Red Cross was contacted to provide aid to those affected by the fire.

The State Fire Marshal is present at the apartment complex to conduct an investigation into the origins of the fire.
