Jersey City’s Missing Man: Tyrone Gibson’s Family Desperate for His Safe Return

The family of Tyrone Gibson, a 35-year-old man who has dealt with a nervous condition his whole life, is seeking the public’s assistance in locating him. He went missing from Van Reipen House, a group home in Jersey City, over a month ago.

Tyrone never had a cellphone, and his concerned aunt, who is his guardian, expressed worry about his disappearance. She mentioned that he hasn’t collected his SSI check, which is unusual for him.

Tyrone Gibson had previously encountered issues with a roommate at a different group home on Union Street. Consequently, he was transferred to Van Reipen House in late June. His aunt shared that Tyrone’s brother intervened at the Union Street home to protect him.

Charlene Gibson, his aunt, explained that Tyrone requires medication for diabetes and his mental health conditions. He has been hospitalized in the past due to mental health concerns.

On one occasion, Tyrone Gibson even took a train to New York City. He has been residing in homes managed by Serv Behavioral Health System, an organization that emphasizes compassionate care and personal empowerment for individuals with chronic mental illnesses or disabilities.

Tyrone’s aunt recalled a time when he used to stand outside Dunkin’ Donuts and ask for spare change when he lived on Union Street.

Tyrone moved to Van Reipen Street facility in Jersey City on June 23, and he was reported missing on July 27. An employee at the facility assured that they had made efforts to locate him and reported him missing. They suggested contacting the home’s director for more information.

PIX11 News also attempted to contact the Jersey City Police Department, and they advised reaching out to the city’s public information officer once the Labor Day holiday was over.

Tyrone’s family is desperately seeking help in finding him and ensuring his well-being.
