Buffett had been diagnosed with Merkel cell cancer four years before he passed, according to information on his website.
Merkel cell cancer is an exceptionally rare form of cancer, as reported by the National Cancer Institute. Risk factors include sun exposure, a compromised immune system, and being over the age of 50. This type of cancer tends to grow rapidly and spread early to nearby lymph nodes and subsequently to lymph nodes or skin in other parts of the body, such as the lungs, brain, bones, and other organs.
Throughout his treatment, Buffett continued to perform, with his last surprise appearance in Rhode Island in early July, as stated on his website.
In 2022, Buffett had to reschedule tour dates due to health problems and a “brief hospital stay.” These initially scheduled dates for the end of 2022 were postponed to 2023. Additionally, in May, he canceled a concert in South Carolina after being hospitalized.
He commented at the time, “Growing old is not for the faint-hearted, I assure you.”
Buffett passed away at his residence in Sag Harbor, New York, surrounded by family and friends, according to his website.
