Winifred “Winnie” Mae Bird
Winifred “Winnie” Mae Bird, 72 of New London, MO passed away at 12:20 AM Saturday, May 16, 2020 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of New London, MO. Burial will be at Barkley Cemetery in New London, MO. Pastor Ken Martin will officiate. Pastor Brian Ninedorf will assist.
Friends and Family are invited to Winnie’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday at the church.
The family is being served by the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, MO.
Winnie was born on August 22, 1947 in Palm Beach, FL to Permelia Catherine Newlon White.
Winnie was married to Robert C. Jameson on September 1, 1967. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1994. She later married James R. “Sam” Bird on March 29, 1996 in New London, MO. He survives.
Other survivors include: six children: Billy Johnson (Joni), Kyle Jameson (Gina), Edward Jameson, Tracey Tate, Travis Bird and Tara Albright. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Winnie was preceded in death by her mother, one daughter, Kimberly Jameson and one great granddaughter, Sophia Lewis.
Winnie retired from the Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center, where she was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and a Certified Physical Therapy Aide for many years.
Away from work Winnie loved to garden and care for her flowers. Winnie was a certified Master Gardener. Trips with her husband, feeding the birds in her yard daily and sewing were also a few of Winnie’s favorites. A warm and loving mother and grandmother, most will remember Winnie’s welcoming personality, she never knew a stranger. She dearly loved her grandchildren and always hosted an annual Halloween pumpkin carving and wiener roast for them for many years. Winnie simply enjoyed the moments she shared with her family and friends the most.
A devout Christian, Winnie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of New London, MO. She liked to read her Bible and her devotionals daily and was a member of the Hearts of Love sewing group at First Baptist Church of New London.
Pallbearers will be Danny Howald, Nathan Jones, Jamie Page, Jace Barton, Brian Whaley and David Wise.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Forget Me Not Senior Citizens Center in New London, MO.
