State Fair 4H/FFA Horse Show
The Monroe County horsemanship group traveled to Sedalia, Missouri to compete in the 2021 Missouri State Fair 4H/FFA Horse Show July 29th- August 1st. This is a four day Horse Show with the top horse competitors in the state. Monroe County showed up ready to bring home the hardware. Thursday was the first day of show which started with Barrel Racing and Pole Bending. Temperatures that day reached the upper 90s and the heat index was 105. This did not stop the girls determination of placing in the top 10 of their classes! The 15 and Over age division had over 30 entries in each of their classes. After a late night of game classes the girls competed first thing Friday in Showmanship in the coliseum on the Missouri State Fair grounds. After a much needed break after Showmanship the girls competed in the Western Pleasure and Ranch Riding Classes. The afternoon ended with the ever so popular Open Costume Class. This class had around 40 entries. Saturday classes included horsemanship and trail class. Sunday ended the long weekend of showing with Pony Cart and English classes. The girls were faced with challenges including the hot temperatures and the very tough competition in their classes. The state fair classes are entries of riders from the across the state and they all want the same thing; their name to be called for a top 10 placing. It is sometimes hard to find the positive in competing in several classes and not hear your name called. The Monroe County horsemanship group represented their clubs and chapters with poise and grace. They kept a positive attitude and continued to cheer on others. We had limited practice time but the girls worked hard every practice so they would be at their best when competing in Sedalia. They all came home with a ribbon and were all ready to get home and relax.
